Katherine Walraven

Passionate about the potential that global, challenge-based learning has to change the world for the better, Katherine feels very at home in her role as Director of Education Programs at TakingITGlobal – an organization dedicated to empowering youth to understand and act on the world’s greatest challenges. Having joined TIG in the fall of 2008, she has the good fortune of working with teachers around the world to use technology to facilitate transformative global learning experiences for their students.

Undergraduate and graduate degrees in international affairs helped her to understand just how urgent a situation the planet and its people are in, and the critical role that education has in shaping a better common future. She has long taken on education roles in one way or another, and her background in the field includes experiences as a global educator for CHF (formerly the Canadian Hunger Foundation), an international development workshop facilitator for Oxfam Canada, a teaching assistant at Carleton University, and an ESL teacher in Japan.

Katherine's writing has been published by Princeton University's Journal of Public and International Affairs, the Association for Progressive Communications, MultiMedia & Internet@Schools magazine, and The Australian Education Leader. In her time with TIG she has facilitated many workshops and presentations across North America and overseas and looks forward to presenting at ASI 2011!
